Technology Hacks
Drowning in techy talk? Don’t know your CRM from your CMS?
In a world that’s getting techier by the second, it can be overwhelming trying to keep up with the pace.
So relax, take a deep breath and read on … as we present five free (or very cheap) hacks to help you bluff your way to tech brilliance.
Facebook, please help
Techy – Let’s assume you’re already a master of Facebook (if not, ask your kids). There are plenty of groups that can help cure your IT headaches.
Megan Iemma, founder of business Tech Coach HQ, runs a Facebook group called TechMadeSimple, where businesses can trade notes.
She says throwing a question out to the group can save hours of hassle if someone’s already experienced – and conquered – the same problem.
Iemma says there are also plenty of other groups, such as Business, Business, Businessand I’m a Business Owner in Victoria that are at the ready to lend a helping hand.
Teach yourself –Techy
Of course if you’re stuck on a specific problem, there’s always YouTube. But if that doesn’t cut it, Alecia Hancock, director of social media education business Hancock Creative, recommends trying website Udemy.
“There are heaps of low-cost courses you can watch on demand that can teach you how to do anything from set up your email to grow your business,” she says.

Delegate –Techy
Feeling frustrated? There are thousands of people just waiting to help – for a fee, naturally.
Sites such as Upwork and Fiverr can help get your problem solved quickly and cheaply (check the sellers’ reviews first).
Streamline your social media
If posting everyday doesn’t appeal, work smarter.
“Use a free or low-cost tool like Hootsuite and schedule a week or even a month’s worth of content in one day,” says Hancock.
“You can even schedule content for more than one platform at once.”
Easy design tools
These days it seems like you need to be everything from a website designer, to copywriter and designer to promote your business.
But Hancock says it’s easy to create beautiful images for your social media site.
“Canva.com has created a tonne of templates so all you have to do is change a few words, adjust the colour and you have yourself a great social media shareable image in minutes.”
